Found poetry workshop

Next workshop:
Thursday, 12th February 2026, 1pm to 3pm
Venue: Breathing Space, Witton Gilbert

This workshop is free to book, but a donation to Breathing Space is appreciated if you are able to make one. Bookings open on the Breathing Space booking system on 29 January.

Found poetry is the art of taking a piece of text, and searching for a poem within. I have a short YouTube video about the technique, which will probably explain it best.

It is a really relaxing project and even if everyone starts with the same piece of text, everyone will come out with a different poem and will illustrate it in their own style, making each piece unique. The poems tend to be a reflection of yourself at the time of creating it.

Once we have found our piece of poetry within the page of text, we’ll use paints and collage to illustrate the poem directly on the page. I will provide you with the pages of text and materials to have a play, and I will be there for guidance.

  • Just wanted to say I would thoroughly recommend the art courses with Carrie. I did the found poetry course yesterday and really enjoyed it. Carrie is an excellent teacher and made me feel really welcome. I was nervous about meeting the other people on the course, but they were lovely also. We had a laugh while we were learning, and encouraged each other all the time. I came away from the afternoon feeling so much better and can’t wait to try another course with Carrie.

  • Had a wonderful afternoon in Carrie’s superbly equipped studio, learning to do Found Poetry. It was a very informal atmosphere and we all had a fun time! Carrie is a fabulous teacher – very helpful and encouraging. Afterwards I immediately checked out her other courses, which says it all! Thank you Carrie!
