Metal embossed Japanese stab bound sketchbook workshop

Upcoming workshops:
Monday 11 November, 10.30am to 4.30pm – book here – 1 place left!
6 hour workshop, £75 per person
Venue: Crafts for Wellbeing studio, Stanley

In this workshop I’ll take you through the methods of creating a metal embossed image and hand binding a sketchbook using the Japanese stab binding technique. We will then combine the two together to create your own unique sketchbook.

No experience of metal embossing or book binding is necessary, as I will take you through all the methods to make your sketchbook. We’ll go through all the steps from creating your design, to transferring it to the aluminium plate, learning the techniques of metal embossing, and finally how to finish your decoration in order for it to be ready to attach to the sketchbook. I will also show you how to cover and and bind the sketchbook. The sketchbook will be filled with watercolour paper and is A5 (approx 15cm x 21cm) in size.

You will leave the workshop with a unique sketchbook, that you can use either to draw or paint in, or as a memory book.

The workshop takes place at my home workshop just outside Stanley, County Durham. It is a small workshop, so workshop classes are also small, which means you will receive plenty of individual attention. This workshop will need at least two people booked on it to go ahead.

Please note that my home workshop is accessed by stairs.

A light lunch will be included, as well as hot drinks and cake, biscuits and fruit throughout the day. Please let me know of any dietary requirements when you book.
