Create an illuminated monogram from metal.
After an introduction to the tools and materials, we’ll start off by creating a small practice piece so that you can get used to how the tools and materials work.
We’ll then move on to creating your illuminated monogram design. We’ll draw out your chosen initial letter and then I will show you a traditional space filling method used in medieval manuscripts for creating the background design.
No experience of metal embossing is necessary, as I will take you through all the methods to make your monogram. We’ll go through all the steps from creating your design, to transferring it to the metal plate, learning the techniques of metal embossing and finally how to finish your monogram to make it look aged.
You will leave the workshop with a finished illuminated monogram.
Suitable for beginners.
About the workshop space:
The workshop takes place at my home workshop just outside Stanley, County Durham. It is a small workshop, so workshop classes are also small, which means you will receive plenty of individual attention. This workshop will need at least two people booked on it to go ahead.
Please note that my home workshop is accessed by stairs.
Hot drinks and cake will be served during the workshop, please let me know of any dietary requirements when you book.
