Studio blog: Inktober 2025 recap
This year I took part in the annual Inktober challenge, where participants are encouraged to create a sketch using ink every day during October.
There are ‘official’ prompts given out by the organisers if you are stuck for ideas, but, as usual, I decided to go my own way and concentrated on what I would like to draw instead.
I worked in the remainder of the A6 size hand bound sketchbook that I used for last year’s Inktober, although I had to add a few extra pages at the end of it to complete the project. This year I drew purely black and white ink sketches of something during my day, in 5 minutes or less.
This week’s sketches have been a mix of home life, studio work, workshops and being out and about.
The sketches are very small, about 6.5cm x 5cm.

I’ve really enjoyed the process, creating these bite sized pieces was very rewarding. At first I drew the sketches using a fine line fountain pen, 0.3mm nib, but reverted to using Faber Castell Pitt Artist pens later on with 0.05mm and 0.1mm nibs. I think I do prefer the fountain pen sketches, as they had lines with more life in, but I wanted finer lines, so reverted to the sketching pens. Last year I used both ink and watercolour, and I must say that I much preferred this year’s ink only sketches.
Here are this years sketches in full, I hope you like them. Do you have a favourite?
