Studio blog: copper embossed clock
I’ve just put the finishing touches to this copper embossed clock and I’m really pleased with how it turned out.
The Celtic design is an old one of mine that was part of my symbol mandala series, which is in my first book. It originally had a sun design in the centre, but I took that out here and just gave a nod to that with the triangles.
This is a prototype, so not available to buy, as I used this piece to iron out any problems, of which I came across a few! These were mainly to do with the clock kit that I bought. As you can see from the photo, this kit had a pre-attached hanger to the back of the clock face which is visible, which I’m not keen on. It also came with plastic hands, which didn’t go well with the lovely copper that I had spent all of those hours embossing! I first tried to foil the plastic hands, which didn’t work too well, so then I covered the hands in copper Krylon pen, which was a much better finish. Next time I will use a slightly larger clock face, a different hanging mechanism which won’t be visible, and a different clock mechanism that comes with metal hands rather than plastic.
I will be creating more clocks to buy, so look out for those in the future! In the meantime, this prototype will hang up in my studio, so if you come for a workshop you will be able to see it in person.
