Studio blog: Hand made metal embossed journal with Japanese stab binding

A couple of weeks ago I finished this prototype for an upcoming full day workshop. This is a bespoke workshop for a craft group and on it everyone will learn how to create this Japanese stab bound journal and then metal emboss the front cover. There’s a quick video below showing you the book ‘in action’.

There are still a few tweaks to make to the construction, but I’m really pleased with the result and am looking forward to using this as my own sketchbook 😃

The tulip design is one I drew for my second Celtic knot colouring book. The border is inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

If you would like to learn how to make this journal, then let me know in the comments below, and I’ll put a workshop on in my own studio later in the year 😊
