Studio blog: woodcut carving and printing

This is a recreation of a Thomas Bewick wood engraving, but recreated as a wood cut, and of course at a much larger scale!
This was one of the demo blocks I took to Beamish Museum a couple of years ago to demonstrate printmaking during Georgian times, and also to demonstrate the works of Thomas Bewick. I was so busy chatting to people that this one never got carved. It’s day has finally come and I’m pleased with it.
Soft lino cutting is my forte, wood cutting and especially Thomas Bewick’s skill of wood engraving are much different skills, so I’m pleased with this result in a relatively new medium for me.
