The Illuminated Trail at The Story, Durham

During January my community art group were lucky enough to participate in two projects that were displayed as part of The Illuminated Trail at The Story in Durham, which took place from 21st to 23rd February.

My group all worked together to research, design and create artworks celebrating County Durham which will be projected on to the frontage of the Georgian building during the event. I am immensely proud of my group and the artwork they created and the result was fantastic. They worked incredibly hard and their hard work really paid off.

Above is a short video of the original artworks that the group made and how they were re-interpreted into the gobo light projections. We decided on three themes, ‘Locomotion No. 1’ to celebrate it’s 200th anniversary this year, ‘River Wear’ and ‘Miners’ Banners’. Each theme consisted of four other themes celebrating County Durham, ‘Nature and Landscape’, ‘Industry’, ‘Architecture’ and ‘Culture’.

For the other project my group worked with Hannah Kelly for her ‘Travelling Tales’ project, and everyone created a piece to be a part of that, including me, which was a nice change getting to create some artwork in class! The ‘Travelling Tales’ exhibit will be displayed as part of the Illuminated Trail and is also still touring around County Durham, see Hannah’s website for details.

I’m immensely proud of my group and all the creativity and hard work they’ve put in to these projects. Fabulous work, everyone!
