Demonstration Day: Wood block prints after Thomas Bewick
Last weekend I had a wonderful time demonstrating wood block carving and printing as part of the Georgian Gathering event at Beamish Museum. Here’s a very quick video showing an overview of the weekend.
I was demonstrating in the Pockerley Old Hall area of the museum, in a marquee just next to the hall. I have to praise whoever put the marquee up, as we stayed warm and dry in the thunderstorms and lightning on Saturday and the high winds on Sunday!
As this part of the museum was contemporary to late Georgian wood engraver, Thomas Bewick, I created a wood block print after one of his designs for visitors to the museum to print up and take home. I also worked on a second wood block print after one of his designs to demonstrate the carving process. It was wonderful to meet so many lovely people, and chat about Thomas Bewick’s work and his process.
Here are the two wood block prints after Thomas Bewick that I created for the weekend.
Thanks so much to everyone who came by my stand to say hello, it was lovely to meet you, and I hope you enjoyed printing up your wood block.
