Student showcase: four week hand made journals course

Over the past four Fridays, I’ve had a fantastic time with a community group in Stanley, showing everyone how to make a hand bound journal.

We learned a lot of different skills over the four weeks:

Week 1: carving a design out of soft lino, which was then printed on to fabric to create the material for the spine of the journal.
Week 2: creating decorative papers for the outer and inner covers of the journal, using acrylic paints, stencils and the lino cut they made in week 1.
Week 3: binding the journal.
Week 4: finishing off the book binding and then adding pockets, envelopes and decorations to the interior of the journal.

As you can see from the photos, they all created fabulous books and were all really pleased with what they had created. Excellent work, everyone!
