Student Showcase: Raffia Basket Weaving

Over the summer in my community craft group at The Lodge in Blackhill and Consett Park, we have been making raffia baskets. Here are a few of the baskets, both in progress and finished.
I love how they have all turned out – amazing work, everyone!
The trickiest part of raffia basket weaving is getting started. Once that’s done it’s just a matter of choosing colours and playing with the shape.
There’s definitely a case of ‘I’ll just do one more row’ with this craft, which makes it ever so slightly addictive! Once you get into a rhythm, it’s very relaxing.
