Studio blog: Inktober 2026 – days 1 to 10

Inktober is an annual challenge, created by Jake Parker in 2009, and has become a looked forward to event in lots of artists’ practice. The concept is simple enough, draw something every day in October. I put some time aside each day to draw something, even if it’s only for 5 minutes. I have taken part in Inktober off and on for quite a few years, although I have always gone my own way, and never followed the ‘official’ prompts.

This year though, I saw that Koosje Koene was putting together a month of prompts and putting a space for all of her Patreon members to post their work, and I wanted to join in, as the prompts are all about tools and processes, rather than a specific subject. This really appealed to me. Koosje has also kindly made it available to free members of her Patreon site, like me.

So I’ve had lots of fun these past 10 days playing with continuous line, dip and brush pens and just having fun. I’m not spending ages on any of these, 10 minutes at the very most. Stayed tuned for the next 10 days!
